Foodie tour to Jeonju area (Part 3)

마이산 전경

We say that a human being is a feeble creature, but sometimes we’re surprised to see what one man or woman could achieve in his or her life. When I arrived at Tapsa(탑사) in Jinan(진안) near Jeonju(전주), I was amazed and fascinated by the scene that a man made in his life. Tapsa is a temple where a man named ‘Gapryong Lee(이갑룡)’, a retired scholar built numerous pagodas one stone at a time over a period of decades. It is said that he built 108 towers over 30 years from 1885, but only 80 of them remain today. The more amazing thing is that the existing pagodas have never been toppled over by heavy rain or storm.

탑사2Without any glue, how could such many stones stick tight to each other?

마이산_최종2People who have visited here inserted a coin in the middle of ups and downs of the rock so that it would not fall down. I did the same for fun.

If we do something sincerely like piling one stone at a time over a long period of time, there would be nothing we can’t achieve in our lives.

  1. Are you kidding me? there is no glue or cement attaching those stones and they still remain many years later? Omg what a unique place to visit. Maybe one day I’ll get to insert a coin too! Thanks for sharing!

    1. I myself couldn’t believe what I saw. His sincerity and long years may have been natural glue that bound and hardened the stones. It was really amazing.

  2. 탐사에요?? 절 이름이??? 정말 완전 특이하고 이국적인데요?? 이번 휴가때 시댁 가있을 예정인데 함 가보자 해야겠어요 ㅋㅋ
